Highlights
at the core of extroversion vs. introversion is energy.
…& what i’ve realized is that 98% of people drain my energy.
sounds dramatic, but it’s true. i walk away from an interaction with a bit less energy than i came into it with.
Note: Reminds me of exercises from The Good Life book where we looked at energizing vs depleting relationships and the frequency of interaction.
and i’ve made it my life’s mission to seek out as many of these people as possible.
Note: I like this and appreciate the notion of emphasizing the 2%ers in your life. At the same time, I think in this time of isolation and polarization, we also need to expand our capacity to open to new people in perhaps unexpected interactions and bounce back if they are depleting.
Keeping a close circle of 2%ers in our circle who help us to energize, gain inspiration and insight is valuable, as long as it can ultimately help us to expand outward from time to time, as we’re able.
so finding your 2%ers should be of high priority.
Note: I think this can be overwhelming to people, the notion of finding your 2%ers. Where to even start? Everyone’s so tired.
find people you love (your 2%ers), then do life with them.
2%ers aren’t always the most available folk
Note: This feels like my experience. there are so many fascinating people, but they’re maxed out on relationships already, or feel otherwise unavailable. Too busy lives!
How to get together
make 2 lists: activities you enjoy and the names of your 2%ers. now play matchmaker.
schedule these as recurring activities so they’re already locked into your calendar. if you have to schedule it every week, you’ll inevitably fall off.
How to keep in contact
make a list of 10 people who you often forget to keep in touch with but care about
add them as fav contacts
call them when you’re walking to places. try not to drive places that are less than 15 mins walking distance
